Duke of Edinburgh Expedition
This Summer, KS4 Rivers ran its first ever Silver Duke of Edinburgh Award expedition alongside its traditional Bronze Award expedition to Great Barford in Bedfordshire.
For those of you unfamiliar with the Duke of Edinburgh Award, the expedition is the culmination of a year's worth of work for the students. They have studied camp craft, wild cooking, orienteering and teambuilding. The Silver expedition lasts for 3 days with 2 nights camping as opposed to the Bronze expedition which is 2 days and one night's camping.
The students navigated different routes around the greater Bedfordshire area, managing their equipment packs, food for the day and essentials. All students behaved exceptionally well in different and challenging environments, the opportunity to build new friendships and be away from home comforts brought out a grounded side to the students who all worked together to look after and support one another.
This year is the largest number of students to be put through the Duke of Edinburgh Award and we are one of the highest rated schools for pass rates in the country.
The centre will always work with students and families to make this award available to everyone and look forward to working with our new intake to achieve Bronze Award and our existing students aiming for the Silver Award.
